The Hunger Stone
Some Jeep owners have a playful upside down sign on their windshield. "If you can read this, roll me over." That sign always makes me chuckle. But there is another upside down sign from centuries ago that has a much darker meaning. Low down in the Elbe River in the Czech Republic, near the town of Decin, is a river stone engraved in upside down writing--
"Wenn du mich siehst, dann weine."
(When you see me, then weep.) Famine was coming.

Storm Surge
Do you know what storm surge is? We have a saying here in the hurricane zone. "Hide from wind, run from water." When a hurricane comes ashore, the strong offshore winds pile up the water up ahead of the storm. This is what kills most people in hurricanes-- storm surge.

Hard Times
I wish to share some things I saw while praying yesterday, along with an attempt at interpretation. As with anything like this, I think we need to each individually ask, "God, if this is you, what does it mean?" And then ask the next question-- "God, what do you want me to do with this information?"

Dagon and Dizziness
As I think about the Dagon passage in I Samuel, I notice that Dagon's head and hands were broken off. The ability to reason, and the ability to work. Yesterday at my jobsite, I had two important tasks. Critical tasks. I had to calculate some quantity of materials to order, and I had to finish building a catwalk over the water so my customer could get to his boat lift and play with his boat. These two things absolutely had to get done yesterday, and I was the only one who co

More Than Enough
What I think God was telling me was that He was going to provide for me. There would be More Than Enough. Yes, I was going to feel burned out. But he had ample stores, and would supply what I needed. He is more than enough. And I don't need to worry.

The Black Horse of Famine
Friends, God talks. And sometimes He provides warnings of trouble to come. Amos 3:7 tells us: "The fact is, the Sovereign GOD does nothing without first telling his plans to his servants the prophets." I believe that this is one of those times. Long ago, God gave pagan king Pharaoh a dream of impending famine so he would prepare, and in so preparing, save Joseph's family. And I am hearing the same thing from various people today, in unrelated ministries... that hard times and
